Heaters are an essential appliance in every home and they are most needed during the extremely cold seasons, when the air gets so frosty that it seems impossible to do anything. When infrared heaters were launched in the market, households and industries alike were able to enjoy a much better way to fight the biting cold. What makes an infrared heater any different from the conventional one? The difference is quite significant.

Infrared heaters use infrared radiation to emit heat through an invisible light spectrum. It provides heat just like the sun does, we cannot see it but we can directly feel it as the heat is absorbed by our clothes and skin. But unlike the sun, infrared heaters don’t radiate harmful ultraviolet rays. And unlike conventional heaters, infrared heaters do not warm and make the air stuffy. They directly heat up the person or object that it comes into contact with. Thus, the air still remains unruffled while the heating takes places. This is the very essence of infrared heating.

Most infrared heaters vary in fuel supply and construction substance. Common types of fuel sources for infrared heaters are propane, natural gas, and electricity. Propane infrared heaters use propane, a nontoxic and colorless liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) that’s widely used in appliances, vehicles, and heavy equipment. Propane is not a natural type of fuel; it is a processed gas that undergoes intensive pressurization.

The second type of infrared heater is the natural gas infrared heater and as its name implies, it uses natural gas to fuel the infrared heating. Natural gas is a natural substance that’s comes from the deepest deposits in the earth’s crust. It is a flammable combination of hydrocarbon gases that’s generally used in cooking, heating, and powering some appliances. Since propane and natural gas infrared heaters do not need electricity to function, they are widely used in homes and places where supply of electricity is scarce

The last type is the most commonly used among households, offices, and industries since they can function most easily. They are the electric infrared heaters or IR radiant heaters, conveniently powered by electricity so there’s no need for any gas supply. These heaters normally use a filament material called the tungsten wire which gives extra surface area to speed up the heating process. The filament is usually secured in a quartz glass tube, which is then responsible for emitting the infrared heat to the persons or objects within its range. Because electric infrared heaters are plug-in devices, manufacturing companies and offices make use of them the most.

Moreover, infrared heaters can either be portable or stationary. The portable infrared heaters offer more flexibility since they can be used outdoors or in different parts of the home. Stationary infrared heaters are typically preferred by those who want more or lack space in a room. They can either be mounted on the wall or ceiling. Households with kids employ stationary infrared heaters for safety and space purposes.
